When healing is a pain
Article Abstract:
A case study of a patient with leg ulcers is described. The patient was in severe pain and very distressed. However, after being prescribed adequate medication and the type of dressing changed to one which did not adhere to the wound, she improved dramatically. Practitioners should ensure pain relief is a priority and that dressings that stick to wounds are not used. Bathing the leg in warm water will loosen dressings painlessly. Other pain relief strategies are discussed. More research needs to be done on the effects of pain on the healing process.

Caring for ventilated children at home
Article Abstract:
Research into the work of home care staff caring for ventilator-dependent children at home is discussed. It was found that the most significant element of the carers' work was communication with mothers. Issues that need to be addressed include the drawing up of clear guidelines about the role of the carer towards siblings.
