The working wounded
Article Abstract:
People who are told that they are HIV positive often try to find out as much as they can about the condition as a way of coping with it, according to Roger Ashman, who was diagnosed as HIV positive in Jan 1994. He was at that time managing a hospital catering service, which has a very stressful job. He had already been open about his sexuality, but did not feel that his employer needed to know about his HIV status. He eventually came close to a nervous breakdown, and was greatly assisted by establishing contact with the hospital's occupational health department.

The working wounded
Article Abstract:
A fireman describes how he suffered a heart attack at the age of 31 despite keeping himself very fit, passing both army and fire brigade physicals. He tells how he threw himself into a strenuous exercise regime at the rehabilitation centre, resulting in an exceptional rate of recovery. He describes how he pursued a legal route to be able to continue his job as a fireman, based on passing a new HGV fitness test.
