Therapeutic care increases independence
Article Abstract:
A study into the benefits of nurse-managed therapeutic milieu was aimed at preventive, cost effective, health care for people with chronic mental health problems in institutions. Patients were encouraged to help one another to improve their self esteem and therapeutic activities include swimming, woodworking, occupational therapy and reminiscence were included. Medication schedules were also changed and minimal restraint was introduced. There was a small rise in minor assaults although immediate intervention occurred. The less restrictive environment meant greater independence for some patients.
