Third-generation oral contraceptive and deep venous thrombosis: from epidemiologic controversy to new insight in coagulation
Article Abstract:
There appears to be an increased risk of deep venous blood clots with third-generation oral contraceptive use, particularly in certain populations. Four studies that found this association were re-examined for potential biases. The data were found to be valid. Biases associated with first-time use, study design, and prescribing and usage patterns have not been found to significantly affect the original findings. Young women and first-time oral contraceptive users appear to be at greater risk of deep venous blood clots.

Estimates of risk of venous thrombosis during pregnancy and puerperium are not influenced by diagnostic suspicion and referral basis
Article Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the relative risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during pregnancy and puerperium in a setting that was not influenced by diagnostic suspicion and referral bias. Show that previous studies were less affected by diagnostic suspicion and referral bias than presumed.

Preeclampsia and genetic risk factors for thrombosis: a case-control study
Article Abstract:
Gene mutations that increase the risk of blood clotting do not appear to cause preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy. In a study of 326 women, half of whom had preeclampsia, 13% of both groups had a gene mutation linked to abnormal blood clotting.
