Risk factors for prostate cancer
Article Abstract:
A variety of factors may increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among US men, and its incidence is increasing with the aging of the population. A study reviewed articles published in the medical literature that examined different risk factors for prostate cancer. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age especially in men who are over 50 years old. Men with a family history of prostate cancer may have a higher risk of developing this type of cancer than other men. The incidence of prostate cancer is low among Asian men but high among African-American men. Men who have had a vasectomy may also have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer. Environmental factors that may contribute to the development of prostate cancer include exposure to the trace mineral cadmium, smoking and increased levels of fat in the diet.

Effects of removing thyroid antigens in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease
Article Abstract:
It is not clear why the body sometimes produces antibodies against the thyroid gland. Researchers believed the immune system was reacting to a protein in the thyroid gland. But the body doesn't stop making the antibodies when the thyroid gland is removed, according to a study of 182 patients with thyroid cancer who also had autoimmune thyroid disease. Removing the cancerous thyroid gland caused a gradual disappearance of antibodies over several years.
