Time to unlock secrets of medical review
Article Abstract:
Physicians agree to the necessity of peer review to approve health care procedures and avoid unnecessary services, but they object to the secrecy shown by Medicare and other insurance carriers. The AMA Office of Quality Assurance recommends that insurance companies reveal guidelines plus the names of organizations responsible for them. Eight states, including Hawaii and Georgia, have passed legislation to involve doctors in the process of setting criteria for review.

Physicians share varying views on euthanasia
Article Abstract:
Five physicians' attitudes toward euthanasia are presented. For example, better terminal patient care, including adequate pain control, will lessen interest in euthanasia. An alternate view holds that physicians should be able to opt for active euthanasia because it may be more humane than letting a patient die slowly from infection or other causes as the physician stands by. Other views on euthanasia delve into the ethical and psychological considerations.
