Tired of waiting
Article Abstract:
The Royal College of Physicians, Psychiatrists and General Practitioners published a report in 1996 about Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome. It is difficult to diagnose and the numbers of estimated sufferers in the UK varies from 150,000 to 500,000. Women are twice as likely to have ME than men and many work in stressful and demanding professions such as nursing and teaching. Doctors need to accept that ME is a physical rather than a psychological problem. Viral infection is the most likely trigger for onset of ME in 80% of cases.

Ward leaders pivotal in safe recruitment process
Article Abstract:
Hospital ward managers must be trained in recruiting and selecting staff, in ensuring that enough qualified staff are working and in setting high standards of clinical supervision, according to Anne MacDonald, director of quality at Manchester Children's Hospitals. This will ensure that cases like that of Beverly Allitt, a nurse who murdered four children, cannot happen again. No member of staff should be recruited before references have been checked, a medical report obtained and a police check made where necessary.
