More aggressive treatment of pediatric HIV is urged

Dr James Oleske advocates treating pediatric HIV patients early and aggressively. He suggests putting children on antiviral treatments while their immune systems are still strong, and recommends paying careful attention to other symptoms such as weight loss. Dr Oleske encourages doctors to test pregnant women and women who are considering pregnancy because many deny being at high risk. Up to 75% of children with HIV antibodies serorevert to HIV-negative at between 15 and 24 months old.

New California PPOs producing tumult among physicians

Preferred provider organizations are rapidly expanding in California, and physicians are concerned that their standard of living will be adversely influenced. The California Medical Association and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Associations of California are studying how current legislation affects this new trend in health care.
