Topical and systemic treatment of psoriasis
Article Abstract:
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition which can be debilitating and have profound effects on the lifestyle of sufferers. Among the treatments to control psoriasis are corticosteroids, coal tar preparations, photochemotherapy, systemic drugs and topical creams. More severe cases of psoriasis can be treated with systemic drugs such as methotrexate and cyclosporin. Dithranol has been used to treat psoriasis for many years and can be used in conjunction with ultraviolet light treatment. A description of the pharmaceutical treatment for psoriasis is described, plus general tips for patient support.

Article Abstract:
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition taking the form of red scaly lesions on elbows, knees and scalp. The cause is unknown but may be precipitated by stress and the use of some drugs. Most psoriasis treatment is topical and include coal tar preparations sometimes used in combination with salicylic acid. However it has been superseded by other treatments such as topical corticosteroids which can reduce DNA synthesis and epidermal mitosis.
