Towards an understanding of young peopl'es conceptualisation of food and eating
Article Abstract:
The eating habits and food choices of adolescents are influenced by many factors, including peer approval. An investigation into the eating habits of young people, including their dietary patterns, is explored. The study interviewed 81 adolescents aged between 13 and 14 and asked them about their food beliefs and concepts. Analysis of the data shows that young people typically classify food as either 'healthy' or 'junk'. 'Fast' foods were considered acceptable for eating with friends and outside the home, while 'healthy' foods were more likely to be eaten in a home setting.

A nutrition intervention programme for lower secondary schools in Greece
Article Abstract:
Researchers in Greece used a nutrition intervention programme with adolescents, with the aim of re-introducing cancer-preventing eating patterns. Greeks have traditionally had a high intake of fruit and vegetables, which have been shown to be beneficial in preventing cancer. However, nutrition patterns amongst adolescents are changing to include more Western-style fast and snack foods. The programme had a ten week duration and activities included discussion, games and workbooks. The programme was well-accepted and resulted in small dietary improvements.
