The article examines the need to improve training for nurses to use medical equipment and devices expertly and safely. Discussion also includes risk management, potential for litigation, and the length of time nurses would have to spend away from patients in order to receive proper training.

The United Kingdom's Medical Devices Agency said that there were 7,249 adverse incident reports last year. These came about due to medical device malfunctions. Nurses must take great care in regularly checking devices before using them on patients.
