Do trusts know where to draw the line when trying to cut costs?

Hospital trusts are taking drastic steps to save on their budget that are being highly ridiculed by the national media. Looking at the desperate measures of asking the staff to bring their own pens and patients to bring their own nightclothes, the media is raising questions of the limit to such cost-cutting techniques.

The NHS plan is requiring that telephones and televisions be placed in every hospital room, and Internet access may also be available soon. A company called Patientline will be licensing telcommunications services to the NHS, but hospital patients will have to pay for the services they use.
