Transmission of human herpesvirus 8 infection from renal-transplant donors to recipients
Article Abstract:
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) can be transmitted during organ transplantation. This virus has been implicated as a possible cause of Kaposi's sarcoma. Researchers analyzed the development of antibodies to HHV-8 in 220 people who received a kidney transplant. Only six percent were HHV-8-positive at the time of the transplant, but 18% were positive one year later. Within two years of their transplant, two patients who were HHV-8-negative before surgery but HHV-8-positive after surgery developed Kaposi's sarcoma. Further research on six patients revealed that five of the kidney donors tested positive for HHV-8.

Asthma control during the year after bronchial thermoplasty
Article Abstract:
A yearlong randomized, controlled Asthma Intervention Research (AIR) trial examined the efficacy and safety of bronchial thermoplasty as a treatment for moderate or severe persistent asthma. The findings suggested that bronchial thermoplasty in subjects with moderate or severe asthma results in an improvement in asthma control.
