Transplanting teeth successfully: autographs and allografts that work
Article Abstract:
Tooth transplantation appears to be a viable option for replacing a missing tooth. An allotransplant transfers a tooth from one person to another. This procedure may transmit disease and is less successful than alternatives. An autotransplant involves moving a tooth from its original position to another site in the mouth of the same person. The dentist extracts the diseased tooth carefully to preserve the bone and tissue. The transplanted tooth is gently removed and placed in its new position with firm finger pressure. A non-rigid splint secures the transplanted tooth for approximately one week and tissue around the tooth heals completely in eight weeks. The 10-year success rate in autotransplantation ranges between 60% to 95%, which is comparable to dental implants. Transplants are less costly than dental implants, appropriate for children, and can replace teeth in all areas of the mouth.

Antidepressant-induced bruxism successfully treated with gabapentin: case report
Article Abstract:
Dentists report the case of a 50-year-old man with a history of manic-depression who began taking the antidepressant drug venlafaxine. Within a few days, he began clenching and grinding his teeth, especially at night during sleep. The medical term for this is bruxism. He also told his psychiatrist that he was anxious and had trouble sleeping. His psychiatrist then prescribed gabapentin for insomnia and anxiety. The patient reported that his anxiety, insomnia and bruxism all disappeared when he began taking gabapentin.
