Treatment of vaginal dysplasia with loop excision: report of five cases
Article Abstract:
Loop electrosurgical excision appears to be a rapid and safe technique for treating vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia. Electrosurgical excision uses a high frequency electric current to remove tissue. Neoplasia is the appearance of abnormal cells that may show characteristics of malignancy. Five patients with vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia had surgery using this technique. All five received general anesthesia. The procedure took less than five minutes in all cases and in some cases it took less than two. No sutures were needed at the site of the excision. Adequate specimens for analysis were obtained in all cases. There were no postoperative complications.
