Ultrasound guided injection of recalcitrant plantar fasciitis
Article Abstract:
Ultrasonic guidance may improve the accuracy and effectiveness of injection therapy for plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is the painful inflammation of membranes in the heel. After repeated injections of triamcinolone and an anesthetic drug did not produce relief, researchers tested ultrasound-guided injection into the plantar fascia of four patients. The technique brought long-term relief in four of five heels in three patients. Ultrasound permits accurate injection and even distribution of antiinflamatory and pain-relieving medication into the plantar fascia.
