Trends in Hospitalization Associated With Traumatic Brain Injury
Article Abstract:
Patients with mild brain injuries are being treated in outpatient settings rather than in a hospital. According to data from the National Hospital Discharge Survey, the hospitalization rate for brain injuries has dropped 51% since 1980. Much of this decrease was in hospitalization for mild brain injuries, which dropped 61%. The drop in hospitalization rates was greatest in children between the ages of 5 and 14.
