Article Abstract:
The problem of sudden shooting pain in the face is called trigeminal neuralgia, which is a disorder that affects one of the largest nerves in the head, the trigeminal nerve. The pain is triggered when a nearby blood vessel in the base of the brain comes in contact with the trigeminal nerve root, pressuring the main part of the nerve as it enters the brain.
