Under pressure
Article Abstract:
Metered dose aerosol inhalers (MDIs) are difficult to use properly and up to 60% of users are not using them properly. Nebulizers are good for acute asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, while cystic fibrosis sufferers can have antibiotics via nebulizers. However, the drugs given through nebulizers are expensive and the equipment has to be washed and well dried every time it is used. Patients find it time-consuming and awkward so some do not use it as they should. MDIs and large volume spacers may be better.
