Alginate dressings consists of a dry material that forms a gel when it comes into contact with wound exudate and the gelling characteristics of alginates vary according to the particular product used. Findings reveal that alginates are widely available and simple to use and their removal should be pain-free, which is a major benefit to patients.

The application of foam dressings

Techniques for applying foam dressings and cavity foam dressings to wounds are described. Foam dressings are used because they can conform to the shape of the wound and they are highly absorbent.
