Undetectable cerebrospinal fluid HIV RNA and beta-2 microglobulin do not indicate inactive AIDS dementia complex in highly active antiretroviral therapy-treated patients
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to assess whether nonelevated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF0 markers could delineate inactive AIDS dementia complex (ADC) in patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). CSF marker cutoff groups did not define neuropsychologic change and the linear regression showed that only CSF VL was a weak predictor of neuropsychological performance change.

Potential role for white matter lysosome expansion in HIV-associated dementia
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to examine whether HIV-associated subcortical dementia (HAD) is significantly related to the lysosomal expansion that occurs in subcortical white matter in brains from persons with AIDS. The results suggest that the abnormal metabolism in white matter glial cells contributes to cognitive slowing in persons with HAD.

Interruption and discontinuation of highly active antiretroviral therapy in the multicenter AIDS cohort study
Article Abstract:
The study aims to identify the determinants and consequences of interrupting and discounting highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) among a population-based cohort of HIV-infected men. It concluded that host characteristics play a role in short interruptions, whereas longer interruptions may be clinically indicated.
