Urethral prolapse
Article Abstract:
Urethral prolapse should be considered in young girls with vaginal bleeding. Researchers examined two cases of unexplained vaginal bleeding in a 7-year-old and a 6-year-old. The girls also complained of frequent and painful urination. A round mass was visible in the area surrounding the urethra. Urethral prolapse almost always occurs in girls under 10 years old and in postmenopausal women over 50 years old. Because symptoms of urethral prolapse very often include spotting or slight bleeding, diagnostic errors are common. Typical errors include referrals to the gynecologist and suspected sexual abuse. Treatment strategies include sitz baths, antibiotic creams, and rest. Surgery is recommended for recurring episodes and severe complications.

Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Pediatric Epilepsy
Article Abstract:
Many pediatricians do not initially treat a child who has a seizure. In a study of 613 children who were newly diagnosed as having epilepsy, 20% were not immediately treated. Even one year after diagnosis, 10% had not been treated. In the past, doctors believed seizures in children would get worse and must be treated aggressively. However, many children who have seizures become seizure-free without any treatment. Many doctors are more likely to treat certain types of seizures but not others. They may also be concerned about the side effects of anti-convulsant drugs.
