Use of community matrons for care of long-term conditions
Article Abstract:
The priority given by the UK government for improving care for people with long-term conditions has led to many new and challenging roles for nurses. The appointment of 12 community matrons by Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust in partnership with city hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, to act as key workers and the use of their advanced clinical skills to improve the care offered to vulnerable patients with multiple long-term conditions are discussed.

'My time as a community matron gave me some primary care enlightenment'
Article Abstract:
The post of the community matron provided primary care enlightenment to the author, as she gained a lot of experience and knowledge of the long-term conditions of the matrons after leaving the daily acute care and managing the chronic care. It can be clearly seen that in spite of all the disadvantages related to the promotion of the district nurses to the post of the matrons, it still remains a very important step in developing nurses' decision-making skills.
