Using pH testing to confirm nasogastric tube position
Article Abstract:
The MHRA published a directive for all hospitals in the UK to use pH paper in place of litmus paper when testing position of nasogastric tubes in 2004 and one trust's implementation of this process of change to achieve compliance. Staff began highlighting difficulties they were having in using the new pH paper but to make the change process effective a core group of staff was recommended to appoint.

Guidelines for testing the placing of nasogastric tubes
Article Abstract:
The National Patient Safety Agency has produced guidance on the safe testing of nasogastric tubes that began following the circulation of a 2004 reported by the coroner for Yorkshire. The recommendations and their rationale and background are discussed.

Using an alternative fixing device for nasogastric tubes
Article Abstract:
The use a new alternative fixing device for nasogastric tubes is described, as fixing tubes in place could be a problem. Nasogastric tubes are increasingly used in both the hospital and community setting, especially with patients who have had a stroke.
