Vacuum wrapped
Article Abstract:
The wound healing technique of vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) was successfully used to treat a foot which may otherwise have ultimately required amputation. Maggots were initially unsuccessfully used to debride the wound, with the treatment possibly failing because of the alkaline environment. VAC encourages a high quantity of capillaries to be produced by forcing rapid regeneration of the microcirculation in a hypoxic environment which causes aerobic bacteria to die. Blood is pulled into the wound bed by negative pressures and oxygen reserves are available for energy in tissue regeneration.

Medicated bandages
Article Abstract:
Medicated bandages used for wound dressings have mild astringent and antiseptic properties. A zinc paste bandage is one of the standard treatments for leg ulcers, which can be left on undisturbed for up to a week, but where venous insufficiency exists, some paste bandages may be used under graduated compression bandaging, making a careful assessment to exclude arterial disease.

Short stretch compression bandages and the foot pump
Article Abstract:
