A vaginal suppository containing misoprostol is more effective than oral misoprostol in inducing labor, according to a study of 126 pregnant women. However, vaginal misoprostol can adversely affect the uterus.

Vaginally administered misoprostol for outpatient cervical ripening in pregnancies complicated by diabetes mellitus
Article Abstract:
A vaginal suppository containing misoprostol does not appear to be effective in inducing labor in women with gestational diabetes who are beyond term. This treatment was compared to a placebo on an outpatient basis in a study of 120 women.
