Validation of a self-administered form for recording food intake in hospital patients
Article Abstract:
Hospital patients significantly under-estimate the number of foods served, according to research designed to validate a self-administered form used by patients to record food intake. There was good correlation between recorded and observed amount of food for most food items. The underestimation of nutrients was mainly the result of patients failing to record some food items that were served. For most patients, the self-administered form produced a reasonable estimate of their intake, but the recording was not adequate for some patients.

Protein-calorie malnutrition does not predict subtle vitamin K depletion in hospitalized patients
Article Abstract:
The presence of protein-calorie malnutrition does not predict the presence of low plasma phylloquinone concentrations in hospital patients, according to research into subtle vitamin K depletion in the hospital environment. It is recommended that an assessment of vitamin K status should take place independently of an assessment of protein-calorie nutritional status, as there are difficulties attached to making a clinical diagnosis of subtle vitamin K depletion.
