The fibrin-derived peptide Bbeta(sub 15-42) protects the myocardium against ischemia-reperfusion injury
Article Abstract:
The role of the peptide Bbeta(sub 15-42) during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion in vivo, where inflammation has a major role, is examined. The analysis show that the interplay of fibrin fragments, leukocytes and vascular endothelial (VE)-cadherin contribute to the pathogenesis of myocardial damage and reperfusion injury and the naturally occurring peptide Bbeta(sub 15-42) represents a potential candidate for reperfusion therapy in humans.

Vasoactive intestinal peptide prevents experimental arthritis by downregulating both autoimmune and inflammatory components of the disease
Article Abstract:
Research presents a novel strategy for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis that uses a neuropeptide called vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). Findings suggest that the administration of VIP significantly reduces incidence and harshness of arthritis by limiting joint swelling and cartilage and bone degeneration, and the benefits of VIP were also seen in the downregulation of immune and inflammatory aspects of arthritis.

Vasoactive intestinal peptide prevents experimental arthritis by downregulating both autoimmune and inflammatory components of the disease
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the therapeutic effects of neuropeptide vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) for reducing joint inflammation and the deterioration of bone and cartilage in rheumatoid arthritis. Research shows that VIP inhibits T-cell proliferation, regulates the Th1/Th2 balance, inhibits matrix metalloproteinase expression, and downregulates inflammatory response in the arthritis model.
