Delivering justice
Article Abstract:
A 1998 UK court ruling has added to the law governing medical treatment. The ruling supported the right of a woman to refuse a Caesarian section even though the refusal threatened the life of her unborn child. Other related aspects of the law include the lack of legal recognition of the unborn child as a separate entity from its mother, and the legal requirement for patients to consent to treatment. The law also gives priority to documents drawn up concerning a patient's wishes in advance of treatment. Other laws address situations in which the patient is unable to express their wishes.

A permanent police presence in hospital corridors would be a draconian step
Article Abstract:
The research shows that assaults and violence on the hospital staff has increased tremendously in the last few months, which also leads to several serious consequences, like staff retention with a decrease in the morale and quality of care. The author hence suggests that a permanent presence of police in the hospital corridors, in addition to the provision of various personal alarms, panic buttons and mobile phones can help in the reduction of such cases.
