Revaccination of High-Risk Adults With Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine
Article Abstract:
Re-vaccinating adults with the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine appears to be safe. This vaccine is used to protect people from infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae. Elderly people in particular are at high risk of this infection. However, after vaccination, blood levels of protective antibodies decline over time, prompting some doctors to re-vaccinate people. A 1999 study found that people who were re-vaccinated were more likely to develop a reaction at the injection site compared to those being vaccinated for the first time. However, the reaction was minor and did not last long.

Hypoglycemia and the Decision to Drive a Motor Vehicle by Persons With Diabetes
Article Abstract:
Doctors should tell their diabetic patients to check their blood sugar before driving a car and not to drive if their blood sugar is too low. In a study of 158 diabetic patients, about half decided to drive at least half the time when their blood sugar was less than 70. A normal blood sugar level is 90 to 100. Many of the patients knew their blood sugar was low but did not realize the danger of driving under those conditions.
