War wounds
Article Abstract:
Nursing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients requires dedication, skill, patience and a high level of communication ability, as many of those suffering from the syndrome have problems controlling their temper and feelings of inadequacy. Veterans of the Vietnam war can undergo a rehabilitation programme at the National Centre for PTSD in San Francisco, USA, with the treatment consisting of staff support, group therapy, interaction with others in a similar position and experience sharing.

More than skin deep: As patients with major trauma begin to recover from their physical injuries, psychological effects begin to emerge
Article Abstract:
The chances of surviving once fatal injuries have increased as advances in technology and treatments have been made. Often though, the full impact of the trauma and surgery can emerge some time after the physiological effects have passed. Nurses need to develop a holistic approach to patient care, discuss treatments and procedures, and allow time for family and friends to talk.
