Article Abstract:
Many painful back problems are preventable. Strengthening the muscles that service the back is one way to prevent back pain. A 10-minute workout of five exercise are given. They are the angry-cat stretch, the shoulder blade squeeze, knee push-ups, half cobra, and the butterfly.

Strong abdominal muscles improve posture and keep the back healthy. This can be seen in the dignity and grace of dancers as they move. Five exercises to tone abdominals are presented. They include the hip rotation, isolated crunch, and leg levers.
