West Nile virus--not a passing phenomenon
Article Abstract:
West Nile virus infection can be transmitted through organ or blood donation and when it first emerged in New York in 1999, it was uncertain whether it would be just another obscure disease of the month or would become a world pandemic. However, on the basis of four years of sustained West Nile virus activity in New York State and the expanding national outbreak, it is clear that the virus is not just a passing phenomenon and would continue to claim lives and be of public concern.
