What Do Parents Know About Lead Poisoning?: The Chicago Lead Knowledge Test
Article Abstract:
In areas where lead poisoning is a health problem, parents of young children seem well-informed about lead and lead exposure, but less well informed about prevention or the relationship of nutrition to lead poisoning. In urban areas, parental education is the primary source of prevention, and measurement of parental knowledge is important. In Chicago, 2,225 parents of children 0 to 6 years old completed the survey to determine amount of knowledge. Ninety percent of the respondents were mothers. Higher scores were shown by parents who remembered receiving information about lead from their health care providers.

The Growth of School-Based Health Centers and the Role of State Policies: Results of a National Survey
Article Abstract:
The number of school-based health centers increased 29% between 1995 and 1998, from 900 to 1,157. Over one-third were located in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. However, the fastest increase occurred in the Midwest and Southwestern/Rocky Mountain regions. State funding for school-based health centers actually decreased during this period. This indicates that private institutions and other third parties are providing funds.
