Accidents and injuries from many causes are preventable, so safety awareness must be increased. The need for examining causes of accidents and working to increase safety standards worldwide is discussed. Automobile standards and industrial disasters are a focus.

Too much to pay for freedom

People should mobilize for stricter safety standards for drivers and automobile makers, and for massive tests and harsh penalties for drunk driving. Automobile accidents are the leading cause of deaths of people age 15 to 30 in industrial nations.

No one seems to protest the number of deaths from automobile accidents because the public regards them as inevitable when in fact they are preventable. More safety standards, education and harsh rules against drunk driving are needed.
