When Doctors Marry Doctors: A Survey Exploring the Professional and Family Lives of Young Physicians
Article Abstract:
Physicians married to other physicians are more involved in the rearing of their children, enjoy greater family income, and effectively achieve their career goals. Researchers surveyed 1,208 physicians and found that 22% of male doctors and 44% of female doctors were married to other doctors. These doctors earned less money, although their total family income was greater. Physicians married to physicians had greater respect for their spouse's career, and reported greater enjoyment of work-related interests which they shared with their spouse.

Communication in health care visits when doctors and patients have the same versus different ethnic backgrounds
Article Abstract:
Many patients can communicate well and initiate conversation with their doctor even if the doctor is a member of a different ethnic group, according to a study of 252 people. Therefore, patient-centered communication does not fully explain why many people rate the care they receive more highly when their doctor is the same race as they are. That was true in this study and patient visits were an average of two minutes longer when both patient and doctor were the same race.
