Where is medicine's enemy? Sometimes it's in the mirror
Article Abstract:
Physicians may admit that the government has a role to play in overseeing some aspects of medical practice. For instance, there is the occasional surgeon who charges an outrageous sum for his work. Congress may be willing to distract the public from its own financial dealings by drawing attention to the surgeon. Also, an excellent physician may be terminated by a group that has hidden goals. Standards of medical practice should be more than mere words.

When was it that physicians became the bad guys?
Article Abstract:
Physicians should not be blamed for shortcomings in the health care system, according to one doctor who began his practice in 1982. For example, rising medical rates were encouraged by a Medicare system that gave doctors a blank check in setting rates. Additionally, doctors should not be held responsible for a high infant mortality rate, which is more a socioeconomic issue.
