The proposed merger of health authorities and family health services authorities (FHSAs) will mean that primary and secondary care services will begin to match local needs. However there is concern that there will be no guaranteed presence of nurses on the executive boards of the new purchasing authorities, due to the defeat of a House of Commons amendment to the Health Authorities Bill.
