Old and forgotten
Article Abstract:
A survey of 219 homeless people over 50 years near central London, UK, shows that many are homeless due to 'paranoid' reasons. Of those interviewed, 45% claimed their homelessness was due to such reasons or psychiatric problems. A breakdown in relationships was cited as the reason by 22% of respondents, while 15% said housing problems were the cause. Lack of work, related pressure or retirement were given as reasons by 13% of interviewees. Day services were used by only 17% of the people interviewed.

Survival courses
Article Abstract:
Student nurses in the UK now face much more difficult conditions than they did even a few years ago. They often suffer considerable financial hardship, with grants and bursaries being inadequate to cover their expenditure during training. They are forced to seek part time employment, but even students who do work part time can expect to be heavily in debt by the time they complete their training. Once qualified, they often find that only part time employment is available.

Hidden danger. (psychiatric care patients)
Article Abstract:
Mental health services have to consider whether it is right that someone with psychotic symptoms be jailed, following the life sentences for three former psychiatric care patients who committed horrific crimes soon after receiving psychiatric care. There are recommendations that agencies should share more information, and some campaigners belive that patient rights put the public at risk.
