March madness: with the marching season about to get under way, Northern Ireland faces the prospect of another long hot summer. Between the orange and the green are the nurses
Article Abstract:
Northern Ireland is on full alert for the marching season, and nurses in particular face a growing sense of unease, following the recent murder of two policemen from the Royal Ulster Constabulary. The Craigavon Area Hospital, near to the route of the loyalist march, will close its out-patient clinic for a week, and 500 nurses will be on full alert. Secretary of the health and social services committee for the Ulster Unionist Party Barbara Watson, feels that nurses must do their job, regardless of religious or political allegiances.

Taken to court: what kind of jobs are open to nurses who want to spread their wings?
Article Abstract:
The law is becoming a popular career alternative for nurses, often requiring the same skills as nursing such as listening, communication, empathy, teamwork and management. Nurses in the Law Association (NILA) was set up in 1995, and currently has about 120 members, and there are similar groups in South Africa and Australia. NILA chair Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp, is involved in setting up sponsorship from major law firms, particularly those undertaking work related to medicine.
