Why time-out is out
Article Abstract:
Time-out is a brief pause in a caregiver's interaction with a child and its purpose is to let the child a chance to practice self-calming skills. Time-outs are considered as an effective and appropriate discipline for children up to age five and experts are trying to promote a more positive, guidance-based approach to discipline by bringing changes in schools and daycare centers, where time-outs are sometimes meted out as shameful punishments instead of brief withdrawals of attention.
