William R. Barclay became the editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) at a time when inflation and falling advertising revenue had taken their toll, but he helped lead the publication to a prominent place among medical journals. Barclay is described as a 'Renaissance man' who loved medicine and sailing, and also wrote on a wide range of topics from multiple myeloma and hypertension to unnecessary surgery.

A panel convened by the National Institute of Health (NIH) has taken effective steps in order to manage the symptoms of menopause. The panel's discussions for menopausal symptoms focused on the lack of safety and efficacy data for many complementary and alternative therapies, which large numbers of women use for symptom relief.
