Writing the changes for nurses
Article Abstract:
There is widespread agreement that family planning nurses in the UK should be able to prescribe. However, there has been only very slow progress in this area. Family planning nurses have worked together to develop group protocols to make hormonal contraception available, but it is not yet possible for nurses to prescribe contraceptives. It has become common for groups of nurses to seek to find ways around the Medicines Act 1968 to allow them to make prescription-only medicines available within criteria agreed as part of group protocols.

Report sees nurses as lacking compassion
Article Abstract:
Many parents of young people with mental health problems in the UK feel that they are not being involved in decisions which have an impact on the child and the family unit, according to a report from the Mental Health Foundation. Parents tend to regard nurses as lacking compassion, and often find that they are provided with conflicting information. Primary care staff in particular seem to have insufficient basic knowledge, and professionals fail to speak honestly with parents about gaps in services.
