Article Abstract:
Nursing recruitment campaigns tend to attract heated debate. The nursing profession fears reinforcement of inaccurate stereotyping in the minds of the public, as well as a narrow definition of their profession. Advertisers have a difficult task when drafting a nursing recruitment campaign. They have to portray several aspects including interpersonal skills, the breadth of work involved and the opportunities in the nursing profession. They also have to judge correctly the times that people are considering career choices. The structure of a nursing recruitment campaign is outlined.

Flying your colours
Article Abstract:
Nursing leaders in the UK are increasingly aware that they must have very good creative advertising skills if they are to attract the best nurses. Employers must present a very positive image of themselves, and must give potential applicants a clear sense of the uniqueness of the particular hospital or community organization. Many National Health Service trusts are now developing a corporate advertising strategy, and are also finding that focusing on writing advertisements from the potential applicant's point of view can be effective.

The right stuff
Article Abstract:
Nurse leaders in the UK must develop a recruitment strategy that is flexible enough to adapt to constant changes in vacancy numbers and to changes in service provision. It is vital to base recruitment on an effective working relationship with human resources departments and to operate central strategic coordination for recruitment. High levels of flexibility also make it easier to recruit and retain the most talented nurses. However, flexibility must not reach the point where standards of patient care are endangered.
