Planning processes for advanced manufacturing technology by large American manufacturers
Article Abstract:
The planning and management techniques employed by manufacturing firms for advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) were investigated. A survey of large US manufacturers was conducted to identify the reasons for investing in AMT and its suitability to their business strategy. Results show that ideas for AMT investments mostly come from the production, production engineering and engineering functions. In addition, only a few companies implement training despite their acknowledgement that training is crucial to technology and production management issues.
