Debra L. Lee, chairman, CEO, and president of Black Entertainment Television (BET), was instrumental in helping BET become the first firm owned and controlled by African-Americans to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Lee oversaw the publication of the magazines YSB, Heart & Soul, Emerge, and BET Weekend and several imprints of BET Books, which published romances for African American women.
