Michael Vick, a star football player at Virginia Tech, became the first African American quarterback in National Football League (NFL) history and established himself as one of the most exciting players with good speed. He finished third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy, second in the voting for the Associated Press player of the year and captured both his division's player-of-the-year and rookie-of-the-year awards.
