Obituaries: Stanley Kunitz
Article Abstract:
Stanley Jasspon Kunitz (July 29, 1905 - May 16, 2006) was an eminent poet of 20th-century American verse, an editor and a teacher. Moving away from an intellectual style in the metaphysical tradition and adherence to rhyme and meter to a more open autobiographical style with natural speech rhythms, he won the Pulitzer Prize for Selected Poems, 1928-1958 (1958), taught in a graduate writing program at Columbia University, and co-founded Poets House and the Fine Arts Work Center.
