William H. Rehnquist

William H. Rehnquist, the 16th Chief justice of the United States Supreme Court, has spent three years as head of the Office of Legal Counsel and also generally opposed affirmative action, abortion rights, legal protection of gay rights and greater liberties for criminal suspects. A special Arizona state prosecutor in 1958, he has made a name for himself as a spokesman for conservatism and has also contributed articles on the law to professional journals and national magazines.
