A courtyard to grow with

Landscape architect Terry Lewis designed a versatile courtyard in the backyard of Ben and Teresa McCaleb's San Antonio, TX, home. The courtyard is paved with D'Hanis brick with a small fountain in an Italian oil urn as the focal point. A stucco wall completes the courtyard while screening a barbecue grill.

Article Abstract:
Vacant side yards can be made to look more lively by converting them into courtyards. Minor renovations can be easily made with the help of an experienced landscape designer and interior decorator. A pool, fountain or birdbath are among the many amenities that can be included in the redesign.

An L-shaped low wall transformed the front yard of Alan and Sharon Williams of Orlando, FL, into an entry courtyard. Designed by Architect Paul Velander, the wall separated the terrace from the driveway.
